HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?

Operation: Raise the Roof

                                                                                                                        October, 2007

Dear friends & supporters,

Greetings in the Name of our precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!  By His grace He continues to lead us in triumphal procession and through us is spreading the fragrance of the knowledge of Christ in greater Caracas.  We are always grateful and humbled by your sacrifice and support.  With your help, the Gospel continues to make advances in the country of Venezuela.

One tool the Lord has given us in furthering the cause of Christ is the Potter’s Inn Camp.  Purchased and inaugurated in the year 2002, it has become a refuge where many have had their first encounters with the Lord, been molded closer into His image, or made life-changing decisions concerning ministry.  August has quickly become a favorite time for youth camps as we now average between 350 and 400 campers each summer.  Major decisions have been made in these camps that will impact eternity.  The camp has also become home to regular ministerial and leadership retreats as well as activities for individual churches.  A soon to be opened six-lane highway from Caracas to the camp vicinity will only make the camp more accessible.

As we seek ways to make the ministry of the camp more suitable and usable for Kingdom purposes, one hurdle we need to cross is putting a roof over the multipurpose court.  Frequent rains and daily temperatures nearing 100 degrees in direct sunlight have limited the use of the court.  With a roof overhead, recreational opportunities would be widely expanded as well as space for classrooms, worship, and small group meetings.  Work teams from Indiana and Ohio have already committed to coming to Venezuela during January and February of 2008 to help in construction.  We simply need to provide materials.

According to our engineer, we could ‘raise the roof’ at the cost of $50,000.  As a missionary team, we are asking each family to raise a minimum of $5,000 toward this project.  If we are able to surpass the goal, there are a number of other items which need attention at the camp, including a power generator for frequent power outages, ceramic tile lining in the pool, retaining wall, air-conditioning unit and more.  Whatever can be set aside by you or your church would be greatly appreciated.  All gifts should be made and sent to the forwarding agents of the missionary you support, memo ‘raise the roof’ for camp construction.  The forwarding agents will forward the money from there.

Any questions you may have, feel free to contact David Linn, fellow missionary and camp president at Dlinnvenezuela@yahoo.com or Brian Smith, state-side job coordinator, at btsmith@tpcc.org.  As always, thank you for your consistent support of this mission.  To God be the Glory!

enjoying the new and improved pool

plaground finshed and being used by the local kids

the area around the playground always was retained water, so we put in some drainage

we dug three canals and put in pipe and rocks

even the women got into the hard work

while some dug trenches, others cut the wood to build the playgorund

once the wood was cut we began to assemble it in place.

another angle of the playground

here is the final result. we were very proud

we added on addtion to the plans a miniture climbing wall for the kids.

the ladys play it safe, and choose to paint the climbing wall

climbing walls structure needed another coat of paint to prevent rust

this was a difficult job because of safety and also to avoid getting paint on us

we transported the old tires to place were they were to be burned

our third job involved putting a roof extension to our main meetting place.

many worked hard into the night to finish it in time

we all pose for the final picture of the week. in front of our project

Did someone call "shot gun" Paul; and Dave enojy the best seats of the ride

Sandy Bell shows how brave she is by painting the roof of the playground - Caroline makes sure she doesnt fall.

every evening we enjoyed some venezuelan cuisine
